Xianfeng Village sees bumper harvest of monk fruit

Oct Fri 2024
Monk fruit are now entering the harvest period in Xianfeng Village, Hongshilin Town, Guzhang County. Large and plump monk fruit cover the branches of trees in the planting base. Villagers are busy picking monk fruit, which will be transported to temporary storage sites for sorting.

Last year, grower Wen Yan transferred the gentle slope land adjacent to the river in Xianfeng Village to reclaim it into an orchard, and established a company to plant and sell monk fruit, which not only provided job opportunities for villagers, but also achieved fruitful results through scientific planting technology and management mode.

As a kind of traditional Chinese medicinal material, monk fruit has a large market demand. The monk fruit planted in the village are welcomed by the market because of its good quality and considerable output.

During the harvest season, each tree can produce an average of 80 fruits, with an average of up to 9,000 fruits harvested per mu (about 0.067 hectares). According to the current market price, the average income per mu (about 0.067 hectares) can reach about 8,000 yuan.

The company has also established a close cooperation relationship with Huacheng Biotech Company. Monk fruit will be transported to a transfer station set up by Huacheng Biotech in Fenghuang County after being sorted, and then sent to a workshop for deep processing.

Through this model, monk fruit in Xianfeng Village can enter the market smoothly and achieve the docking of production and marketing.

As the monk fruit industry flourishes, some villagers around the base expressed their willingness to plant monk fruit to Wen Yan. Faced with the enthusiasm of villagers, Wen Yan said that the company would provide technical services and advance funds for villagers to buy seedlings and fertilizers. After they get benefits through careful cultivation and management of monk fruit, the previously borne costs will be deducted. This planting mode will inject new vitality into the development of the local agricultural industry.
